When Would I Need Rooter or Sewer Auguring?
June 05, 2024
What is the first image that comes to your mind when you think of “rooter service”? Unless you are a plumber, my guess is your image was not very pretty. Your image may also involve a backhoe plowing up your beautiful garden in the backyard. While the scenario in your head may be an actual possibility, rooter service can actually be the service that saves you from your nightmare!
In Georgia, we are very lucky to be surrounded by a lot of trees, bushes, and shrubs. With these beautiful trees comes tree roots, and tree roots that grow deep into the ground. Over time, these roots can push through drain pipes. It does not take much, just a tiny crack in the pipe and a tree root will find it. Roots look for a water source, and your home drain pipe is a perfect place for a root to find water and nutrients.
We know what you are thinking, this could take years for the roots to grow through, so why worry about having a rooter service come out? The problem is that you can’t see the roots and where they are growing. You can’t tell where your neighbor’s tree roots may be growing. If you own or move into an older home, you can’t be sure of how long the trees have been growing and where the roots are at. This is where we come in with our video inspection of your drains, and if we spot roots or clogs in the drain, then we use the rooter and/or sewer auguring to clean the drains before a backup can happen.
What if you don’t have a lot of trees or shrubs around your house? How does this service apply to you? Kitchens, shower drains, bath drains, and toilet bowl clogs just to name a few! In kitchens, you can have a backup or clog if you are putting grease, egg shells, or oil down your drain. (A side note: Dumping these items down the drain is not a good idea.) Drains in showers and bathtubs, over time, can have clogs due to soap scum and various other items that go down the drains. Again, in older homes, there may be build up due to the age of the pipes that you can not see unless we come out with a video inspection tool.
As you can see, rooter and sewer auguring do not just apply to digging up your backyard and driving your neighbors crazy with a horrible smell for a few days. You can’t see what is going on in your pipes. We recommend having a plumber come out at least once every few years for a video inspection of all of your pipes to check the health of them. Plus, we can catch roots or the start of clogs and clean them out before they become big problems.
